At 2½ hours’ walking distance from Zinal, the Zinal glacier originates from the encounter of 3 glaciers:
- The Grand Cornier glacier
- The Durand glacier
- The Mountet glacier
The glacier offers some natural caves carved by the stream flowing out. Access is not possible in summer, but in winter snow-shoes hikes are organized on a regular basis.
For this hike, you should plan for approximately 5 hours of walking, with a positive elevation gain of 500 meters over a distance of about 11 km. If you're coming by car, drive through Zinal and park at the Plats de la Lée parking lot (toll parking). By public transport, get off at the "Plats de la Lée" stop.
